greetings
Hello, I'm Koki Takemoto, founder of IDOU Japanese Acupuncture.
Over the past decade, I’ve provided treatments in Malaysia, New Zealand, and aboard cruise ships travelling around the world.
My goal is to make acupuncture a positive and approachable experience, even for those who are completely new to it. I focus on clear communication and use gentle, pain-free techniques to ensure each treatment feels safe, comfortable, and effective.
Now based in Utrecht, I’m here to support your health using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the years. Whether you’re managing ongoing symptoms or simply curious about how acupuncture can help, feel free to get in touch. I'd be happy to hear from you!
Murat K, NL
"I had an acupuncture session with Koki to address an infected nerve that had the left side of my face partially paralyzed and numb.
After just a few treatments, I noticed significant improvement, and the healing process felt much faster than I expected.
Thank you, Koki, for helping me feel like myself again!"
Kinga B, HU
" His knowledge is very strong, whenever I ask questions about what he's doing, he always provides very clear, detail oriented answers. If you need relief while looking for someone who knows what he is doing and genuinely cares, Koki is the one to visit!
Oh and for those who are afraid of needles....don't be, you barely feel a thing :) "
Jessica H, AZ
"Before starting acupuncture with Koki, I was dealing with knee pain, digestive issues, and anxiety. After a few sessions, I felt real improvements in my mobility, digestion, and my emotional balance.
Each session also left me feeling more energized. I strongly believe in the benefits of the treatment and would suggest anyone to try."

Are there any side effects of treatments? Our treatments are very safe, as they are performed by a fully qualified practitioner with professional training in all techniques. Side effects are extremely rare. In some cases, you may feel a bit tired or drowsy after the session—this is a natural response as your body begins to adjust and restore balance.
-
How many sessions do I need? The number of sessions varies depending on the condition. Acute issues may improve in a few treatments, while chronic conditions may require regular sessions over several weeks or months.
-
Can I combine acupuncture with other treatments?Yes! Acupuncture and moxibustion can complement Western medicine, physical therapy, massage, and herbal treatments. Always inform your practitioner about any ongoing treatments.
-
What should I do before and after an acupuncture session? Before: Eat a light meal and avoid caffeine or alcohol. After: Rest, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities or alcohol for a few hours.
-
Can acupuncture help with stress and emotional health?Yes, acupuncture is effective for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression by regulating the nervous system and promoting relaxation. It can help balance hormones and improve sleep as well.
-
What clothes should I wear to my acupuncture appointment? You’re welcome to come in any clothing—even straight from work or training. We provide a blanket to keep you comfortable during your session, and if you prefer, we also have treatment wear available for you to change into.
-
What is acupuncture, and how does it work?Acupuncture is a practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to promote natural healing, reduce pain, and restore balance. It works by stimulating nerves, muscles, and connective tissues, which can enhance circulation, release endorphins, and regulate the nervous system. You can also take a look our "How does acupuncture work?" page for more information.
-
What conditions can acupuncture and moxibustion help with? They are commonly used for pain relief (back pain, arthritis, migraines), stress and anxiety, digestive issues, menstrual and fertility support, sleep disorders, and immune system strengthening. You can also take a look our "Symptoms" page for more information.
-
Is acupuncture safe?Yes, when performed by a licensed and trained professional, acupuncture is very safe. The needles are sterile, single-use, and ultra-thin. Side effects are very rare and our practitioner will make sure that everything is fine before finishing the treatment.
-
Does acupuncture hurt? Most people feel little to no pain during treatment. We use ultra-fine, high-quality needles imported from Japan, which significantly minimise any sensation. While some points or techniques may cause a slight sensation, we always prioritise your comfort and aim to carry out the treatment with as little discomfort as possible.
